Michael grew up in the small town of Dyersville, Iowa, home of "The Field of Dreams," but he now lives with his wife and two sons in Raleigh, North Carolina. His short story collection Gunning for the Buddha, which Publishers Weekly called "evocative and vivid," came out from Prime Books in January 2005. His paranormal romance Heart's Revenge was published by Five Star Books under the pseudonym Julia C. Porter. His near-future SF novel The Wannoshay Cycle came out from Five Star Books in January 2008. Two novels are forthcoming from Prime Books: A Gathering of Doorways (2008) and Maps & Legends (2009).
He has also published four dozen stories in places such as Asimov's, Strange Horizons, Heroes in Training, The Raleigh News & Observer, and O. Henry Festival Stories. He's currently working on either writing, revising, or brainstorming one to three novels, depending on his mood...
