About AnthologyBuilder:
AnthologyBuilder is the brainchild of Nancy Fulda, author and assistant editor of the speculative fiction magazine Jim Baen's Universe. Founded in October 2007, the web site currently hosts 628 stories and 278 cover images, including work by Eric Flint, Dave Freer, and Hugo-Award winning artist Frank Wu. At this early stage of development, our offerings include a particularly large selection of science fiction and fantasy stories. We are working to extend this variety into other areas of fiction, with long-term plans for the addition of poetry and non-fiction sections, as well. The Customer as Editor One of the driving concepts behind AnthologyBuilder is the idea of the customer as an editor. In the past, fiction readers have been at the mercy of the market; they could only buy the stories that happened to be in print at the time, and assembling a collection of their favorite stories often required the purchase of over a dozen anthologies and magazines. We plan to change all that. As our library grows, we expect AnthologyBuilder to become a place where customers can come to assemble the anthology they've always wanted to buy but have never been able to find on the shelves at their local bookstore. The customer is no longer at the mercy of the market. Revitalizing Short Fiction Nancy hopes that, by letting customers choose their own anthology content, readers will be enticed to invest in short fiction again, both emotionally and financially. The stories the reader wants will no longer come packaged with stories which the reader does not want. The customer has complete control. For more information on this topic, see Nancy's blog.
